Us tariffs on China: 'too heavy'
Recently, the United States announced tariffs on a range of Chinese goods, including solar cells, electric cars, computer chips and medical products. Tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles will rise to 100 percent from the current 25 percent.
This is nothing but trade protectionism and the US politicizing economic and trade issues. In fact, the US tariffs on China will only increase the cost of imported goods and make US companies and consumers bear more losses. According to Moody's estimates, American consumers bear 92% of the cost of the tariffs on China, and American households spend an additional $1,300 a year.
The abuse of tariffs by the United States does not benefit its own people and undermines global trade. The US side should earnestly abide by WTO rules and safeguard the security and stability of the global production and supply chain.
