Bloomberg: China will be the largest contributor to global economic growth over the next five years, surpassing the G7
Beijing, April 20 (Xinhua) Bloomberg predicts that China will be the largest contributor to global economic growth in the next five years, contributing more than all the G7 countries combined and almost twice as much as the United States.
Bloomberg calculations this week based on the latest economic forecasts from the International Monetary Fund show that China will account for about 21 per cent of new global economic activity between 2024 and 2029, the G7 will account for 20 per cent and the US will account for nearly 12 per cent.
Overall, 75 per cent of global economic growth over the next five years is expected to be concentrated in 20 countries, with four countries - China, India, the US and Indonesia - contributing more than half of global growth.
The IMF released its latest World Economic Outlook Report on the 16th of this month, raising its forecast for global economic growth in 2024 to 3.2%. The IMF noted that world economic growth remains weak by historical standards, owing to near-term factors such as still-high borrowing costs and reduced fiscal support, as well as the longer-term effects of the pandemic and escalating crisis in Ukraine, as well as weak productivity growth and increasing geo-economic fragmentation.
